Thankfully today there are many gluten free products available to elevate the holiday experience. And, whether it’s Thanksgiving, Chanukah or Christmas, we’ve got some hacks to help you navigate Gluten Free baking.

Christmas Recipe: GF Chocolatey Dessert Puff Pastry Christmas Tree Recipe

Ingredients:

– 1 package Gluten Free Easy Puff Pastry Sheet, thawed according to package directions

-1 tbsp or more corn starch or tapioca starch (for dusting)

– 1/2 cup Nutella® or your favorite chocolate-hazelnut spread

– 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pecans)

– 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

– 1 egg plus 1 tsp vanilla extract beaten (for egg wash

-flakey sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

-Christmas themed small candies, sprinkles, and chocolates 

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Dust your work surface with cornstarch and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to make a large  rectangle.

3. Cut the Tree Shape: Using a knife or a tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out a Christmas tree shape from the puff pastry. You’ll need two identical tree shapes.

4. Spread Nutella®: Take one of the puff pastry tree shapes and spread a generous layer of Nutella evenly over it, leaving a small border around the edges.

5. Add Nuts:  Sprinkle the finely chopped nuts evenly over the Nutella layer.

6. Place the Second Tree:  Carefully place the second puff pastry tree shape on top of the Nutella and nut-covered one. Press the edges gently to seal.

7. Create Branches: Use a knife to make vertical cuts from the bottom of the tree towards the center, creating branches. Leave a small uncut area in the center to form the tree trunk.

8. Twist the Branches: Take each branch and gently twist it to create a layered effect, making the Nutella and nuts visible.

9. Egg Wash: Brush the entire Christmas tree with the beaten egg. This will give it a golden-brown finish when baked.

10. Bake: Transfer the assembled puff pastry Christmas tree onto the prepared baking sheet, and sprinkle w sea salt if using. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until it turns golden brown and puffy.

11. Cool and Dust: Allow the Christmas tree to cool slightly on a wire rack. If desired, dust it with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.

12. Serve:  Sprinkle your tree with Christmas colored sprinkles and candies to look like ornaments. Slice and serve your delicious puff pastry Christmas tree. 

Hanukkah Recipe — Gluten Free Easy Nutella® Puff Pastry Dreidels

Ingredients:

– 1 package Gluten Free Easy Puff Pastry Sheet, thawed according to package direction

– 1/2 cup of Nutella or any preferred chocolate spread, softened in the microwave for 30 seconds at 10 second intervals

– 1 tsp coconut oil, melted

– 1-2 tbsp tapioca or corn starch, for dusting

For glaze

– 1/2 cup powdered sugar

– 1-3 tsp milk of choice

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Lightly dust your work surface with tapioca or cornstarch and roll out the puff pastry sheet to make it slightly thinner.

3. Mix the softened Nutella® with coconut oil and spread evenly over the entire surface of the puff pastry.

4. Cut out dreidel shapes using a cookie cutter until the whole sheet is cut out.

5. Place the pastries on your parchment lined baking sheet.

6. Bake for 18 minutes until puffy and golden, and set aside to cool.

7. Make the powdered sugar glaze by mixing the sugar and milk together.

8. Place the glaze in a small ziplock or piping bag and snip a small piece off the end.

9. When the pastries are cool, pipe a nice zig zag pattern over the dreidels.

10. Serve warm, and enjoy

GF Candied Yam Holiday Hand Pies:

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

– 2 cups cooked and mashed yams or sweet potatoes

– 1/2 cup brown sugar

– 1/4 cup unsalted butter or vegan butter

– 1/4 cup maple syrup

– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Crust:

-2 packages GF Easy Mini Pizza Dough Rounds

– 1 egg (for egg wash)

– 1 tablespoon water

-1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Dusting:

– turbinado or course sugar (optional)

For serving:

  • mini marshmallows, torched or slightly burnt under the broiler 

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:

– In a medium saucepan, combine the mashed yams or sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

– Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture is well combined and heated through, about 5 minutes.

– Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the filling cool to room temperature.

2. Preheat the Oven:

– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper 

3. Dough:

  • Set your pizza dough rounds on a parchment lined baking sheet.

4. Fill and Seal:

– Place a spoonful of the cooled candied yam filling onto one-half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.

– Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, creating a half-moon shape.

– Press the edges together to seal and use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.

  • create a few slits in the top with a sharp knife in order to vent the sweet potato.

5. Egg Wash:

– In a small bowl, whisk together the egg water, and vanilla to create an egg wash.

Brush the tops of the hand pies with this mixture for a golden-brown finish. If desired, dust the top with the turbinado or course sugar for a nice sweet crunch.

6. Bake:

– Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and crisp.

7. Cool:

– Allow the hand pies to cool on a wire rack.

8. Serve:

  • Serve these candied yam holiday hand pies with some torched marshmallows on the side.

GF Potato and Onion Mini Puff Pastry Tarts Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Puff Pastry Tarts:

-2 packages Gluten Free Easy Puff Pastry Squares, defrosted according to package directions

– 2-3 medium-sized potatoes, thinly sliced

– 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Fresh sliced chives for garnish (optional)

For the Sauce:

– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 1 cup milk or heavy cream

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

– Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Filling:

– In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and 

sauté until they become translucent and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. 

Remove from heat and set aside.

– In a separate bowl, combine the thinly sliced potatoes with salt and pepper to 

taste. Toss to coat.

3. Make the Sauce:

– In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 

about 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth paste (roux).

– Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure there are no lumps. Continue to cook, 

stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil.

– Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and a pinch of nutmeg (if desired). Stir 

until the sauce is smooth and well-seasoned. Remove from heat.

4. Assemble the Tarts:

-Set out GF puff pastry squares on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

– Spoon a small amount of the caramelized onions onto each piece of puff pastry.

– Layer the thinly sliced potatoes on top of the onions.

– spoon a spoonful of the creamy sauce over the potatoes.

– Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over each tart.

5. Bake:

– Bake the tarts in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown, and the potatoes are tender.

6. Garnish and Serve:

– Once out of the oven, garnish the tarts with the chopped chives and black pepper if desired.

  • Allow them to cool slightly before serving

Christmas Leftovers GF Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

– Gluten Free Easy Pita Bread, baked according to package directions

– Leftover roast turkey or ham slices

– Leftover stuffing

– Leftover cranberry sauce

– Leftover gravy

– Optional: leftover roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes

Instructions:

1. Bake the Bread:

Bake the bread according to package directions, cut in half, cover with a clean 

towel to keep warm. Set aside.

2. Layer Meat:

Place a generous amount of leftover roast turkey or ham slices inside each pita pocket half. 

3. Add Stuffing:

Spread a layer of leftover stuffing on top of the meat. This adds a delicious, savory element to your sandwich.

4. Cranberry Sauce:

Spoon a few tablespoons of leftover cranberry sauce onto the other side of the pita  bread. Cranberry sauce provides a sweet and tangy contrast to the savory meat and stuffing.

5. Optional Additions:

If you have leftover roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes, you can add them to your sandwich for extra flavor and texture.

6. Warm the Gravy:

Reheat leftover gravy in a saucepan or microwave until it’s warm. Drizzle a bit of 

the warm gravy over the turkey or ham and stuffing layers. This will add moisture and richness to the sandwich.
