Pinecrest Gardens presents the inaugural ‘Avian Oasis’ exhibit, showcasing breathtaking bamboo bird sculptures by The Myth Makers. Opening on Nov. 18, this exhibition is an immersive blend of art, history, and nature that takes visitors on a journey through Miami’s storied past. Each sculpture, crafted with meticulous detail, tells a unique tale.
Get ready to be awed by a 15-foot Macaw honoring Parrot Jungle’s founder, a majestic 30-foot Sandhill Crane paying tribute to Sidney Poitier, and a 10-foot Cockatoo reminiscent of Pinky, the high-wire cycling bird. Look out for a playful 25-foot Peacock inspired by Julia DeForest Tuttle, a 25-foot Eastern Screech Owl nestled in the Banyan Grove, and a 15-foot Painted Bunting celebrating Maurice A. Ferré, the modern-day Father of Miami.
The sculptures, primarily made from sustainable bamboo sourced from the American Bamboo Society, feature whimsical elements and vibrant colors using repurposed materials. It’s a true feast for the eyes!
But that’s not all! The ‘Avian Oasis’ is not just an exhibition, but an interactive experience. Children can explore the Peacock’s tail maze and take part in a scavenger hunt, while adults can immerse themselves in the beauty of the sculptures, creating lasting memories.

The talented duo behind The Myth Makers, Donna Dodson & Andy Moerlein, have brought their passion and expertise to this project. With over 50 projects in 13 years across the globe, their work has received national recognition. Working in residence at Gardenship, an arts incubator, they have poured their creative energy into bringing these avian avatars to life.
