Watching our favorite shows on television once or twice a month is among the many things my partner and I enjoy doing. Whenever we want to spend quality time together without the need for much effort or planning, we open a bottle of wine, grab some snacks, cozy up on the sofa under a soft blanket, and we watch some TV.
I love it because it’s an easy avenue for us to bond and connect with each other. It also creates conversations, laughter, and even excitement. 😉😉
While some may view television as a mindless and potentially harmful form of entertainment, there are actually numerous benefits to it. From providing a way to unwind after a long day to fostering social connections through shared viewing experiences, it is my personal opinion that a little TV can actually improve our overall lifestyle and contribute to our happiness.
Here are just a few reasons why I think watching television can be good for you:
- Escapism: Sometimes, we just need a break from reality. I know I do. Watching TV can provide a temporary escape from the stresses and challenges of everyday life, allowing to immerse ourselves in a different world and forget our troubles for a little while.
- Relaxation: Yes, watching television can be a great way to de-stress and unwind after a busy day. Whether you prefer to binge-watch your best-loved shows, or catch up on the latest sports game, taking some time to sit back and relax in front of the TV can help you clear your head, recharge and feel refreshed.
- Educational: Television is not only a source of entertainment, but also a way to expand our knowledge and learn new things. My guy is obsessed – and I mean obsessed – with documentaries. Indisputably programming and news shows that are educational can all provide valuable information and insight into the world around us.
- Socialization: This is by far my most favorite reason. I find watching television with family and friends to be a fun and engaging way to connect. For instance when I watch TV with my boys, it creates a sense of closeness and helps build a deeper parent-child relationship. It also provides an opportunity to share opinions and sometimes discuss certain personal matters in a relaxed and safe environment.
Of course, as with any form of entertainment, moderation is key. Too much television can definitely have negative effects, such as decreased social interaction, sedentary behavior, and other adverse health consequences. Ultimately, whether or not to watch television is a personal choice. The bottom line is this: watching television can be a great thing. When enjoyed responsibly, it can offer many benefits for both our physical and mental well-being.
